IMSA Convention 2012: At a Glance

It was an exciting Memorial Day weekend in Chicago, Illinois.  Our 10th IMSA annual convention was successful and many thanks go to the Board of Directors, Convention Committee, CME Committee, Humanitarian Committee, and the volunteers who put their hearts, efforts and time to make this event as flawless as it was.

As you know, nothing is perfect and we have encountered minor honest mistakes that we plan to learn from and work on remedies to fix them.  Nevertheless, I am proud to say that the majority of attending members said that this is the "Best IMSA convention" and it was actually the most attended in our organization history.  We have uploaded many new pictures taken over the weekend, so please visit IMSA website to review them.

The CME program was superb and well received by the attending members; this year marked the first collaboration between IMSA and UIC.  I encouraged you to give an honest feedback and review of all the presentations in order for us to build on your input for future CMEs.  You can claim your CME credit by visiting the link below and your certificate will be e-mail or mailed to you after July 26th.

The Humanitarian drive was able to collect donations to help Iraqi physicians, refugees in and outside the United States.  IMSA invited a group of newly immigrant physicians who many of us met during Saturday lunch, they need all help they can get and their profiles as well as future plans will be posted on our web site for those interested in connecting with them.  I urge you to lend a helping hand to those who are less fortunate and to be generous in donating your time, effort, advice and money.  You can donate by visiting IMSA website or click on the link below, your donation is 100% tax deductible.

During the convention, we conducted a survey for the next IMSA meeting location and the winner was Toronto followed by San Diego and New York.  In the near future, the Board of Directors will decide our next location taking into consideration your input, feasibility and the logistics of putting together yet another successful convention.

Our past president, Dr. Riad Almudallal, has graciously agreed to revive our dormant newsletter and soon you will receive an e-mail seeking candidates to join its editorial board.

Finally, I truly cherish seeing all of those who attended and missed the joy of seeing those who could not make it.  I hope that IMSA will always be in your mind and heart, IMSA needs your support and generosity.  I promise all of you that I and the Board of Directors will work hard to propel IMSA forward and make it the premier organization that we are all proud of.
